The key difference between V type and F type ATPase is that V type ATPase works as an ATP-driven ion pump while F type ATPase functions as ATP synthase in cells.

ATPase is a term that refers to enzymes that are able to hydrolyze ATP. Generally, ATPases decompose ATP and the energy released during the reaction is utilized to do work since ATP is the energy currency that provides energy for all most all cellular processes. ATP breakdown needs ATPases. Therefore, ATPases lower the activation energy of ATP hydrolysis. There are four main types of ATPases as F-ATPases, V-ATPases, A-ATPases and P-ATPases. V type ATPases are primarily found in eukaryotic cell vacuoles. In contrast, F type ATPases are found in bacterial plasma membranes, mitochondria inner membrane and chloroplasts. They catalyze the hydrolysis or synthesis of ATP coupling with H+ (or Na+) transport across a membrane.
